Hyundai’s answer to the Volkswagen Scirocco will be launched at the Los Angeles motor show in November.
The Veloster coupé, first seen as a concept in 2007, will replace the Coupe as the flagship in Hyundai’s UK range early next year.
It is a car the firm “wants to be bought for its looks, having been built with the Scirocco firmly in its sights”, according to one insider.
Engines are likely to include a 168bhp 1.4 turbo petrol with stop-start and direct injection. A normally aspirated unit will also be offered.
Hyundai promises “dramatic styling — even more so than the concept”. One key feature is Mini Clubman-style asymmetric doors, which will be re-engineered for right-hand-drive cars.
